ARRIVAL OF NOAA RESEARCH VESSEL SHIMADA

The newest in the research arsenal of NOAA is the stealth quiet ship Bell Shimada.  It is equipped to conduct acoustic surveys, ROV surveys, as well as fisheries trawls.  The ship is equipped with special sound dampening propulsion to enhance acoustic data collection.  Pictured above is the M/V Outer Limits and R/V Belle Shimada in San Diego transferring scientific equipment.  The M/V Outer Limits had just completed a project with the ROV Crew from the Southwest Fisheries Science Center and the ROV dubbed “Matilda” was embarking on the R/V Bell Shimada for a survey off the Oregon coast.
